How to uninstall Craft on Mac

Craft cloud spaces keep uploaded documents online, but External Locations store documents and assets in a folder you choose. Before removing the app, back up any external space and export or finish syncing documents that exist only on this Mac. Before you clean up local data, open craft.do or the iPhone or iPad app and confirm a document you care about is still there. This guide covers both the official direct download (updated through Sparkle) and the Mac App Store build; both were tested.

    Quit and remove the app

Quit Craft from its menu, then remove it: drag Craft.app from Applications to the Trash for the direct-download build, or delete it the usual Mac App Store way (Launchpad or Applications) for the App Store build.

    Where Craft keeps its data

After verifying backups, quit Craft and use Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each existing location. Move only Craft’s own items you no longer need to the Trash. For extension names, open ~/Library/Containers or ~/Library/Application Scripts and select the exact com.lukilabs.lukiapp.Craft entries, not the whole parent folder. Craft’s External Locations documentation explains why an external space cannot be recovered from Craft’s cloud alone.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Containers/com.lukilabs.lukiapp Craft's sandboxed container and local data Selected by default in Mole; confirm cloud documents have synced and local or external spaces are backed up first
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.lukilabs.lukiapp Scripts folder tied to the container Selected by default, removed with the app
~/Library/Preferences/com.lukilabs.lukiapp.plist App preferences Selected by default, removed with the app
Containers and Application Scripts folders starting with com.lukilabs.lukiapp.Craft Craft's extensions, such as its share extension Removed with the app
~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.lukilabs.lukiapp.share App Group used by Craft's share extension, named in Craft's own troubleshooting article and in the Homebrew cask's zap list Listed in Mole but not selected; tick it if you want it gone

    Check the result

    pgrep -il craft
    ls -d ~/Library/Containers/com.lukilabs.lukiapp "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/group.com.lukilabs.lukiapp.share"

No output from pgrep means Craft is not running. For ls, "No such file or directory" means that path is gone, and a printed path means it is still there. A printed Group Containers path is expected if you left that row unticked in Mole.

If you installed it with Homebrew

Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.

The craft cask's zap list covers ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.lukilabs.lukiapp.Craft*, ~/Library/Containers/com.lukilabs.lukiapp.Craft*, ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.lukilabs.lukiapp.share and ~/Library/Preferences/com.lukilabs.lukiapp.plist. The Group Container is an unticked row in Mole, so Mole leaves --zap out unless you tick it.

Running brew uninstall --cask --zap craft yourself moves all four paths to the Trash, including the App Group, regardless of your Mole selection. To keep it, run instead:

    brew uninstall --cask craft

    Account and subscription

Removing the app does not sign you out of your Craft account or cancel a Craft subscription. Uploaded cloud documents remain reachable from craft.do or a fresh install. External spaces depend on the folder you chose and its backup, not Craft’s cloud.

    What Mole lists

For a Craft app installed from either the official download or the Mac App Store:

    • ~/Library/Containers/com.lukilabs.lukiapp, ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.lukilabs.lukiapp and ~/Library/Preferences/com.lukilabs.lukiapp.plist are named after the bundle id and selected by default.
    • The containers and scripts folders of Craft's own extensions are selected by default when their ids continue Craft's bundle id.
    • ~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.lukilabs.lukiapp.share is listed but not selected. If you tick it, Mole moves it to the Trash unless another installed app claims the group, in which case Mole keeps it and the row reads "Kept: couldn't confirm no other app uses this group".

    What this test covered

Craft was installed from the official Sparkle-updated download and uninstalled on September 19, 2026, with an official Mole build (277) and Full Disk Access, as part of a ten-app batch; the app went to the Trash, while a small container macOS refused to move to the Trash and the App Group stayed on disk. Craft 3.6.8 was reinstalled from the Mac App Store and uninstalled again on September 21, 2026, with Mole 1.15.0 (build 282) and Full Disk Access, without ticking the review rows; the app, its scripts folder and its temporary cache went to the Trash, the 8.4 MB container stayed because macOS refused to move it to the Trash, and the App Group and the share extension's container were left unticked and stayed.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
