Uninstall CrossOver on Mac
Export any CrossOver bottles you need before removing the app. A bottle can hold Windows programs and files, and its folder may have been moved from the default location. The September 19, 2026 record covers the app copied from the official package.
Quit and remove the app
In CrossOver, use Bottle › Export Bottle to Archive for wanted bottles, then open the archive location and quit CrossOver. Move CrossOver.app to Trash only after that; do not delete a custom Bottle Folder or published bottles by name alone. The Mac user guide documents the bottle archive command.
Review the app’s data
CodeWeavers documents the default ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles and a Settings › System Integration control for changing it. The whole ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver folder is user data, not disposable cache. After checking your bottle archives and quitting every Windows program and CrossOver, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each location or its parent. Move only the named CrossOver item to the Trash if you no longer want it:
~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver, including default bottles, only after verifying their independent archives~/Applications/CrossOver, generated Windows-app launchers~/Library/Caches/com.codeweavers.CrossOverand~/Library/Caches/CrossOver~/Library/Caches/Cleanup At Startup/CrossOver CD Helper.app~/Library/Cookies/com.codeweavers.CrossOver.binarycookies~/Library/Logs/CrossOver
The current cask also uses patterns for CrossOver items inside ~/Library/Application Support/CrashReporter, ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd/Generated, ~/Library/HTTPStorages, ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports and ~/Library/Saved Application State. Open those parents and inspect only items beginning with CrossOver, CrossOver Help or com.codeweavers.CrossOver, as applicable. Its preferences pattern is broader, ~/Library/Preferences/com.codeweavers.*; keep any file claimed by another CodeWeavers product. Leave custom or published bottle locations alone unless you have independently backed them up and chosen to remove them.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The Homebrew cask has its own --zap list. brew uninstall --cask crossover removes the cask without that list; brew uninstall --cask --zap crossover also acts on its listed data without consulting Mole’s checkboxes. Zap names the default bottle parent, so leave it off if any bottle is needed. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole’s own removal flow.
brew uninstall --cask crossover
Check the result
These commands inspect the running process and one relevant location. They do not remove anything:
pgrep -il "CrossOver"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/CrossOver"
No pgrep match means no process with that name is running; a match needs identification before quitting anything. A listed path still exists, while an ls “No such file” error means only that exact path is absent. A permission error is inconclusive.
What Mole lists
With Remove data and settings with apps off, Mole lists display-name Application Support/CrossOver for review and leaves it unchecked. With it on, this eligible app-data row can be preselected when not shared with another installed copy; uncheck it to keep your bottles. Exact preferences may be selected by default; bottles and custom folders need a separate decision.
What this test covered
The September 19, 2026 official-package test of CrossOver 26.3 removed its preference row; it did not write Application Support/CrossOver on that sample. The record does not prove bottle or custom-location cleanup.
