How to uninstall DaisyDisk on Mac

DaisyDisk shows what is using your disk space and can delete files straight from its map. That delete is destructive on its own and separate from removing the app, so back up or move anything you are unsure about before you use it. The steps below cover the official Mac download and the Homebrew cask daisydisk.

Quit DaisyDisk and remove the app

Quit DaisyDisk from its menu, then move DaisyDisk from Applications to the Trash. If you ever used Scan as Administrator, DaisyDisk also installed a helper service, and removing the app does not remove it; the table below says where it lives.

    Where DaisyDisk keeps its data

In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and check each location that exists.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Application Support/DaisyDisk App data Review before removing
~/Library/Caches/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone Cache data Safe to remove
~/Library/Preferences/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone.plist Preferences Keep your license key or purchase email if you plan to reinstall
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone.AdminHelper and /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone.AdminHelper The Scan as Administrator helper, as named in DaisyDisk's troubleshooting guide Remove once DaisyDisk is gone; deleting it needs an administrator password
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskAdminHelper The helper name the Homebrew cask removes Check for it too; same advice

After quitting, copy wanted local settings and support data from the table to an independent private backup outside all removal folders and verify it. Open each existing confirmed own item in Finder and move unwanted ones to the Trash, preserving shared parents and any retained DaisyDisk version’s data. For the administrator helper, the vendor names the LaunchDaemons file above without a .plist suffix; do not invent a different filename. Confirm each actual file belongs to DaisyDisk and no retained version needs it, then use Finder to move the matching daemon file and helper to the Trash with administrator authorization. Save your work and restart the Mac afterward if the helper remains running; deleting its file alone does not prove its process has stopped.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il daisydisk
    ls -d ~/Library/Application\ Support/DaisyDisk ~/Library/Caches/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone
    ls /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools /Library/LaunchDaemons | grep -i daisydisk

    • No output from pgrep means its process-name pattern did not match; also check Activity Monitor for confirmed DaisyDisk processes.
    • ls -d printing "No such file or directory" for a path means that folder is gone; a printed path means it is still there.
    • If both directories were listed successfully, no output from the last filter means no filename containing DaisyDisk matched in those two directories. Permission or listing errors leave the result unknown, and this does not prove a service has stopped; inspect the exact helper filenames in the table and any remaining process separately.

If you installed it with Homebrew

Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or cannot fully be checked, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.

The daisydisk cask's zap list trashes ~/Library/Application Support/DaisyDisk, ~/Library/Caches/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone and the preferences file above. With Remove data and settings with apps off, the listed own Application Support review row starts unchecked; with it on, an eligible existing unshared row may start checked. Back up wanted data and uncheck it to retain it; zap still depends on the whole cask scope passing Mole’s checks.

Separately from zap, brew uninstall --cask daisydisk always unloads and deletes /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskAdminHelper, with or without --zap. DaisyDisk's own guide names its helper com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone.AdminHelper, which the cask does not mention, so run the check above after a Homebrew removal too.

    brew uninstall --cask daisydisk

    What Mole lists

    • ~/Library/Caches/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone and ~/Library/Preferences/com.daisydiskapp.DaisyDiskStandAlone.plist are selected by default.
    • The listed ~/Library/Application Support/DaisyDisk review row follows the off/on data-selection choice above; uncheck wanted backed-up data.
    • An existing helper matching DaisyDisk’s confirmed bundle identity under /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools can appear as an unchecked review row. A launch daemon requires a matching supported filename or verified launch-item reference; do not assume the vendor’s suffix-free path is listed. Check the actual rows and removal results, and handle an unlisted confirmed helper with the vendor’s instructions above; this test did not create or remove a helper.

    What this test covered

DaisyDisk 4.34.2 was installed from the official Mac zip and uninstalled on September 20, 2026, with a Preview build of Mole. The whole review list was ticked, and the app, its cache, its preferences and its Application Support folder were trashed. DaisyDisk was never used to scan a disk and Scan as Administrator was never used, so no helper existed and its removal was not observed. DaisyDisk · Choosing a Mac Disk Analyzer Beyond DaisyDisk

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
