How to uninstall DataGrip on Mac

Your SQL files and project folders live wherever you keep them and are never part of an uninstall. What DataGrip keeps for itself is a set of version-named folders inside the JetBrains folders under ~/Library, which every JetBrains IDE on the Mac shares. Export your settings first, then remove only the DataGrip<version> folders and never the shared parents. These steps cover the official download from jetbrains.com and the Homebrew cask datagrip; a copy installed through JetBrains Toolbox is removed from Toolbox instead.

    Save settings first

Choose File › Manage IDE Settings › Export Settings to write your settings to a ZIP file (sharing IDE settings). The caches folder also holds DataGrip's local history, which the export does not bring back.

Quit DataGrip and remove the app

For a Toolbox install, open the Toolbox App, click the settings icon next to DataGrip and choose Uninstall. For a standalone copy, quit DataGrip from its app menu, check Activity Monitor for datagrip, then move DataGrip from Applications to the Trash (DataGrip uninstall docs). Uninstalling does not cancel a JetBrains subscription or remove your JetBrains Account.

    Where DataGrip keeps its data

JetBrains documents these folders in Directories used by the IDE. <version> is the release year and number, for example DataGrip2026.2.

Location What it holds What to do
~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/DataGrip<version> Settings such as keymaps and color schemes, plus installed plugins in its plugins folder Export settings first; remove when you no longer need them
~/Library/Caches/JetBrains/DataGrip<version> Caches and local history Caches rebuild, local history does not
~/Library/Logs/JetBrains/DataGrip<version> Logs and thread dumps Safe to remove
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.jetbrains.datagrip.savedState Saved window state Safe to remove
~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains, ~/Library/Caches/JetBrains, ~/Library/Logs/JetBrains Shared parents holding every JetBrains IDE's folders Never remove these folders themselves

    Check the result

    pgrep -il datagrip
    ls -d ~/Library/Application\ Support/JetBrains/DataGrip*
    ls -d ~/Library/Caches/JetBrains/DataGrip*
    ls ~/Library/Application\ Support/JetBrains

    • No output from pgrep means DataGrip has quit.
    • The two ls -d lines list every version-named DataGrip folder still on the Mac, which is expected if you kept them. In macOS’s default zsh, no matches found means that individual pattern matched no folder and ls did not run. Permission errors remain inconclusive.
    • The last line shows the shared folder. It still exists while any other JetBrains IDE or Toolbox is installed, and its other entries must stay.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The datagrip cask quits DataGrip on uninstall and also installs a datagrip command in the active Homebrew prefix’s bin directory (brew --prefix shows that prefix), which Homebrew removes with the app whether or not you add --zap. Its zap list uses DataGrip* globs under Application Support/JetBrains, Caches/JetBrains and Logs/JetBrains, which match every DataGrip version folder, plus the saved window state, all inside your own ~/Library. brew uninstall --cask --zap datagrip moves those to the Trash whatever you selected in Mole, including your settings and local history. It never touches the shared JetBrains parents.

    brew uninstall --cask datagrip

Mole skips --zap when the list reaches data you left unchecked, another installed app’s shared data or a scope it cannot verify, and still removes selected remnants. With Remove data and settings with apps off, the DataGrip<version> folders are unchecked, so leaving them unchecked suppresses zap.

    What Mole lists

    • Mole shows a data-heavy notice for JetBrains apps, asking you to review their data before removing them.
    • The version-named DataGrip<version> folders under Application Support/JetBrains, Caches/JetBrains and Logs/JetBrains are unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off. With it on, eligible unshared version folders can be preselected; back up wanted settings and local history and uncheck their rows to keep them. Selected folders are removed with the app.
    • The saved window state is selected by default.
    • The shared JetBrains parent folders are never offered for removal, and folders belonging to other JetBrains IDEs are not listed under DataGrip.

    What this test covered

DataGrip 2026.2.5 was installed from the official download and uninstalled on September 19, 2026, with Mole Preview build 277. Mole listed DataGrip2026.2 through its existing JetBrains version-folder rule, and in this run those rows were left unticked, so they stayed on disk; the shared JetBrains parents stayed too, and the host Mac's own PyCharm startup entry was untouched. Settings export, a Toolbox-managed install and the Homebrew cask were not part of this test.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
