Uninstall MacPaw Gemini 2 on Mac
Finish reviewing any duplicate-removal results and restore wanted files from Trash before emptying it. MacPaw says Gemini 2 normally moves removed duplicates to Trash, but its permanent-removal setting changes that. Keep your photos, documents and scan targets independent of the app uninstall. This guide covers the Homebrew cask tested on September 19, 2026.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Gemini 2 and move its app from Applications to Trash, or remove its Homebrew cask. If you paid through MacPaw, manage the license or subscription separately through your account. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription or restore a duplicate file already permanently removed. See MacPaw’s Gemini 2 FAQ for its duplicate-file Trash behavior and the support center for license and subscription management.
Review the app's own data
Use Finder's Shift + Command + G to inspect ~/Library/Application Support for folders beginning Gemini, and each of ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/Cookies, ~/Library/Logs, ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Saved Application State for entries beginning com.macpaw.site.Gemini. Identify the actual matching entries; these name patterns are not literal Finder paths. After quitting Gemini 2, copy complete, identified app-owned support folders and wanted preferences to an independent private backup and inspect that copy, then move only confirmed, unwanted app-owned items individually to Trash in Finder. The cask also names /Users/Shared/Gemini 2, shared across this Mac's accounts, and removes ~/.gemini only if empty. That dotfolder may belong to Google Gemini CLI or another tool, so leave used or unidentified data alone. Homebrew MacPaw Gemini cask
If you installed it with Homebrew
To remove the cask without applying its whole zap list, use:
brew uninstall --cask gemini
Homebrew's separate brew uninstall --cask --zap gemini also acts on every path in the cask's zap list. It does not consult Mole's selected files. Review the paths above before choosing that action. Mole checks the cask deletion list and suppresses zap when it reaches unchecked, shared, unknown or unsupported data; selected associated files still follow Mole's own deletion path.
Check the result
These Terminal commands only inspect the current state:
pgrep -il Gemini
ls -ld ~/.gemini
find ~/Library/Application\ Support -maxdepth 1 -name "Gemini*" -print
A pgrep hit needs identification: it may be MacPaw’s app or a Google tool. No hit means no matching process. ls checks ~/.gemini; find looks for Gemini-named Application Support folders. Any result needs ownership review, while an error is inconclusive.
What Mole lists
Mole selects exact MacPaw bundle-ID rows by default. Display-name Application Support folders are review rows, unchecked while Remove data and settings with apps is off, the default. Enabling it can preselect eligible app-owned data; untick folders you want to keep, and ~/.gemini is not claimed as MacPaw Gemini data. It does not delete scanned originals or manage a MacPaw subscription.
What this test covered
On September 19, 2026, the Homebrew cask test covered MacPaw Gemini 2, whose token is gemini. A separate 97 MB ~/.gemini directory on the host was left untouched. That observation does not show whether a signed-in Gemini account, paid license, or every duplicate-removal preference was exercised.
