Uninstall GrandPerspective on Mac
GrandPerspective visualizes files elsewhere on the disk; those scanned files do not become app data when you uninstall the viewer. The September 19, 2026 record covers the app fetched by Homebrew without a cask receipt.
Quit and remove the app
Quit GrandPerspective and move GrandPerspective.app to Trash. Keep scan targets in place; any Apple recent-document entries are system state, not a folder to clear wholesale. The official page has more product information.
Review the app’s data
The app-specific locations are ~/Library/Containers/net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv and ~/Library/Preferences/net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv.plist. Before removal, quit GrandPerspective and copy any wanted settings to a separate backup. Press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each location or its parent, then select only the named GrandPerspective item and move it to the Trash if no longer needed. A permission error means the move did not complete. The cask also names ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments/net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv.sfl*. Open that parent folder in Finder and inspect only files beginning with net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv.sfl; remove those app-specific entries if no longer needed, and keep the parent folder and every other app's entries. The cask's differently spelled Application Scripts entry is not proof of this app's ownership, so do not infer a scripts folder from it.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The Homebrew cask has its own --zap list. brew uninstall --cask grandperspective removes the cask without that list; brew uninstall --cask --zap grandperspective also acts on its listed data without consulting Mole’s checkboxes. The recorded sample had no installed cask receipt, so the command below applies only to a separate Homebrew installation. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole’s own removal flow.
brew uninstall --cask grandperspective
Check the result
These commands inspect the running process and one relevant location. They do not remove anything:
pgrep -il "GrandPerspective"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv"
No pgrep match means no process with that name is running; a match needs identification before quitting anything. A listed path still exists, while an ls “No such file” error means only that exact path is absent. A permission error is inconclusive.
What Mole lists
Mole selects ~/Library/Containers/net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv and ~/Library/Preferences/net.sourceforge.grandperspectiv.plist by default when present and owned by this app. Back up wanted settings first, or uncheck these rows to retain them. A failed Trash move is not success; protected Apple sharedfilelist state stays outside broad deletion.
What this test covered
The September 19, 2026 test fetched GrandPerspective 3.8.1 through brew fetch --cask because the SourceForge site returned 403. No cask receipt was installed. The 37 KB container failed to move to Trash, so it may still be present. If the check above lists it, leave it in place until you can inspect its contents and resolve the permission error; do not treat the app removal as a full cleanup.
