Uninstall Mimestream on Mac
Confirm wanted mail is visible in Gmail web and save locally stored attachments before removing Mimestream. Its local container can hold cached messages and downloaded attachments. The September 20, 2026 record covers the app copied from the official package.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Mimestream and move Mimestream.app to Trash. Account access and any subscription are managed separately; deleting the Mac app is not a Gmail deletion or a subscription cancellation. The official page has more product information.
Review the app’s data
Mimestream documents ~/Library/Containers/com.mimestream.Mimestream as its local mail cache and attachment store. Confirm Gmail web shows wanted mail, save attachments outside the container and open the copies. After quitting, copy any wanted local container data to a separate private backup and verify it. Press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each location or its parent, then move only existing unwanted Mimestream leaves to the Trash:
~/Library/Containers/com.mimestream.Mimestream~/Library/Application Scripts/com.mimestream.Mimestream~/Library/Caches/com.mimestream.Mimestream~/Library/Preferences/com.mimestream.Mimestream.plist~/Library/Saved Application State/com.mimestream.Mimestream.savedState~/Library/Group Containers/group.com.mimestream.Mimestream~/Library/Application Scripts/group.com.mimestream.Mimestream
Keep the group and its scripts until no other installed Mimestream copy needs them. The cask also matches suffixed Mimestream containers and scripts; inspect only actual product-owned extension leaves, not their parents. Skip missing items. System Keychain account tokens are separate from these file locations; use account-access settings for revocation.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The Homebrew cask has its own --zap list. brew uninstall --cask mimestream removes the cask without that list; brew uninstall --cask --zap mimestream also acts on its listed data without consulting Mole’s checkboxes. Zap includes the cache and group container, so confirm attachment copies before choosing it. Mole also suppresses zap if its list reaches unchecked data, another app’s shared data, or a scope it cannot verify; it still removes the selected remnants.
brew uninstall --cask mimestream
Check the result
These commands inspect the running process and one relevant location. They do not remove anything:
pgrep -il "Mimestream"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.mimestream.Mimestream"
No pgrep match means no process with that name is running; a match needs identification before quitting anything. A listed path still exists, while an ls “No such file” error means only that exact path is absent. A permission error is inconclusive.
What Mole lists
Mole can list exact Mimestream container and preference rows, selected by default only when ownership is verified. Group-container deletion has a separate ownership guard; a surviving row is not a claim that Gmail mail was removed.
What this test covered
On September 20, 2026, the official-package app was tested without logging in. After uninstall, a 528 KB container and 4 KB group.com.mimestream.Mimestream group remained. Mail sync and signed-in cache behavior were not tested.
