How to Uninstall Numi on Mac

Copy any Numi calculations you want to reuse before removing the app. The recorded test saw an app-named support folder and a separate shared folder, but it did not establish the contents or owner of every shared file. The recorded test used a direct download, not a Homebrew installation.

Remove the app and inspect its data

Quit Numi and its helper, then move Numi.app from Applications to Trash. Inspect the app support folder before removing history or preferences; leave the Shared folder under Users to a separate ownership review. The app-named support folder held 8 KB in the test. Homebrew also names a Numi folder under the shared Users location, which a manual zap would remove even though Mole did not claim it in the test. Vendor guidance.

After quitting, copy wanted local state from the paths below to an independent private backup outside the removal folders and verify it. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to open each path or its parent, then move only existing unneeded app-specific items to the Trash. Keep shared parents and other apps' files:

    • ~/Library/Application Support/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi
    • ~/Library/Application Support/CrashReporter/Numi_*.plist
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Numi
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.crashlytics.data/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi
    • ~/Library/Caches/io.fabric.sdk.mac.data/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi
    • ~/Library/Containers/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi.NumiExtension
    • ~/Library/Preferences/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi.plist

An asterisk is a filename pattern, not a folder to open literally: open its parent in Finder, inspect actual names, and remove only the matching items belonging to this installation. Keep shared parent folders and retained versions' data.

/Users/Shared/Numi is separate from these personal Library paths and may serve other users or Numi copies. In Finder, open that exact folder, inspect ownership and contents, and preserve it while any other user or copy needs it. Only after everyone confirms it is unwanted and an independent backup is verified should its owner move that Numi child folder to the Trash; keep /Users/Shared itself. Because this zap target is outside your Library, Mole omits --zap and handles only selected supported remnants. Ordinary Homebrew uninstall still stops its declared com.dmitrynikolaev.numi3helper service.

    Check the result

    ls -ld ~/Library/'Application Support'/Numi ~/Library/Preferences/com.dmitrynikolaev.numi.plist

Run this read-only check after quitting the app. A printed path still exists; “No such file or directory” means that path is absent, while a permission error needs its own investigation.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The Homebrew cask has a zap list that includes Numi application support, crash reports, caches, extension container and preferences, plus a Shared-folder path; inspect that path rather than copying Mole’s selection. Run the command below without --zap if you want to keep those files and inspect them separately. A manual --zap follows the whole cask list regardless of Mole’s checkboxes. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole's own removal flow.

    brew uninstall --cask numi

    What Mole lists

With Remove data and settings with apps off, the display-name support review row starts unchecked; with it on, an eligible existing own unshared row may start checked, so back up wanted calculations and uncheck any state to keep. Exact bundle-ID cache and preferences are normally selected. A Shared-folder path is not automatically a Mole remnant.

    What this test covered

Numi 3.32 was removed on September 20, 2026. Its 8 KB support folder was observed, while the empty Shared-folder entry was deliberately left alone. No substantive calculation history was created for recovery testing.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
