How to Uninstall OmniGraffle on Mac

Check where OmniGraffle diagrams live before removing the editor. A document in iCloud Drive needs its own verified copy; moving it out of a sync root can affect the cloud copy. The recorded test used a direct download, not a Homebrew installation.

Remove the app and inspect its data

Before moving the app to the Trash, Finder's Show Package Contents can open its Contents/PlugIns folder. For any installed Quick Look or thumbnail extension there, read its own Contents/Info.plist and record CFBundleIdentifier. After all OmniGraffle copies quit, inspect ~/Library/Containers and ~/Library/Application Scripts for that exact recorded identity; back up wanted state and move only directories confirmed to belong exclusively to the removed copy to the Trash. The historical test did not record those extension IDs, so do not guess their names from the host ID.

Quit OmniGraffle and move its app from Applications to Trash. Leave diagrams and stencils in user folders alone, then inspect app containers individually. The cask zap names both an OmniGraffle container and an iCloud Documents location. An absent path only settles that path; if the iCloud location exists, verify a copy outside the sync root before any cleanup. Vendor guidance.

After quitting, copy wanted local state from the paths below to an independent private backup outside the removal folders and verify it. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to open each path or its parent, then move only existing unneeded app-specific items to the Trash. Keep shared parents and other apps' files:

    • ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.omnigroup.OmniGraffle7
    • ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments/com.omnigroup.omnigraffle7.sfl*
    • ~/Library/Containers/com.omnigroup.OmniGraffle7

For * patterns, open the parent folder and choose only actual entries matching this product and removed version; keep the shared recent-documents parent and other versions' files.

Keep ~/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~omnigroup~OmniGraffle, ~/Library/Application Support/CloudDocs/session/containers/iCloud.com.omnigroup.OmniGraffle and ~/Library/Application Support/CloudDocs/session/containers/iCloud.com.omnigroup.OmniGraffle.plist out of this local-state cleanup. The current cask names them, but they hold cloud documents or system-managed cloud state. Copy wanted downloaded documents to an independent location outside sync and verify them before any separate cloud deletion; do not edit CloudDocs session records by hand.

    Check the result

    ls -ld ~/Library/Containers/com.omnigroup.OmniGraffle7 ~/Library/'Mobile Documents'/iCloud~com~omnigroup~OmniGraffle

Run this read-only check after quitting the app. A printed path still exists; “No such file or directory” means that path is absent, while a permission error needs its own investigation.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The Homebrew cask has a zap list that includes OmniGraffle scripts, containers and iCloud locations; a manual zap could remove a cloud document path. Run the command below without --zap if you want to keep those files and inspect them separately. A manual --zap follows the whole cask list regardless of Mole’s checkboxes. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole's own removal flow.

    brew uninstall --cask omnigraffle

    What Mole lists

Exact app container and script rows are normally selected, while shared or cloud document locations require ownership and protection checks. Do not equate a cask zap list with Mole’s selected targets.

    What this test covered

OmniGraffle 7.26 from the official package was removed on September 20, 2026. Quick Look and thumbnail containers remained after Trash permission errors. No iCloud sign-in or diagram restoration was tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
