Uninstall OnyX on Mac
Let any OnyX maintenance task finish, then decide whether its saved preferences matter before removing the utility. The September 19, 2026 record covers the app copied from the official package.
Quit and remove the app
Quit OnyX and move OnyX.app to Trash. Do not run another maintenance command just to uninstall it, and do not treat macOS caches it inspected as OnyX data. The official page has more product information.
Review the app’s data
After all maintenance tasks finish and OnyX is closed, copy any preferences you want to keep to a separate backup. Press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each location or its parent, then move only the named OnyX item to the Trash if no longer needed:
~/Library/Caches/com.titanium.OnyX~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.titanium.OnyX~/Library/Logs/OnyX.log~/Library/Preferences/com.titanium.OnyX.plist~/Library/Preferences/com.titanium.OnyX.update.plist~/Library/Preferences/OnyX.plist~/Library/Saved Application State/com.titanium.OnyX.savedState
For the cask's two generated-help patterns, open ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd/Generated and ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd/SDMHelpData/Other/English/HelpSDMIndexFile. Inspect only items beginning with com.titanium.OnyX.help and remove those OnyX-specific items after quitting. Keep both Apple-managed parent folders and other apps' help files.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The Homebrew cask has its own --zap list. brew uninstall --cask onyx removes the cask without that list; brew uninstall --cask --zap onyx also acts on its listed data without consulting Mole’s checkboxes. Zap includes generated Apple help-cache leaves; do not broaden them to parent folders. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole’s own removal flow.
brew uninstall --cask onyx
Check the result
These commands inspect the running process and one relevant location. They do not remove anything:
pgrep -il "OnyX"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.titanium.OnyX.plist"
No pgrep match means no process with that name is running; a match needs identification before quitting anything. A listed path still exists, while an ls “No such file” error means only that exact path is absent. A permission error is inconclusive.
What Mole lists
Mole selects exact bundle-ID preference and saved-state rows by default when present. With Remove data and settings with apps off, alternate preference names and product logs that Mole lists for review start unchecked. When enabled, existing selectable rows verified as OnyX's own unshared data may start checked; inspect them and uncheck any wanted settings before removal. Shared or unconfirmed data still needs individual review. Mole does not clear system maintenance history.
What this test covered
The September 19, 2026 official-package test removed OnyX 5.1.0. It did not remove or verify Apple help-cache parent folders.
