How to Uninstall Postico 2 on Mac

Postico 2 can save database connection favorites and query history. Keep an independent private backup of wanted favorites and history before removing local data; uninstalling the client does not remove a PostgreSQL database. The recorded test used a direct download, not a Homebrew installation.

Remove the app and inspect its data

Quit Postico 2 and move Postico 2.app from Applications to Trash. Inspect its sandbox container and preferences before selecting local-data removal. The cask identifies a Postico container and plist. For a local-state backup, quit all Postico copies and copy the entire ~/Library/Containers/at.eggerapps.Postico folder to a private independent location outside all removal folders, then verify the copy before deleting originals. Save any SQL files stored elsewhere separately; leave the database server intact. Vendor guidance.

After quitting, copy wanted local state from the paths below to an independent private backup outside the removal folders and verify it. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to open each path or its parent, then move only existing unneeded app-specific items to the Trash. Keep shared parents and other apps' files:

    • ~/Library/Application Scripts/at.eggerapps.Postico
    • ~/Library/Caches/at.eggerapps.Postico
    • ~/Library/Containers/at.eggerapps.Postico
    • ~/Library/Preferences/at.eggerapps.Postico.plist
    • ~/Library/Saved Application State/at.eggerapps.Postico.savedState

    Check the result

    ls -ld ~/Library/Containers/at.eggerapps.Postico ~/Library/Preferences/at.eggerapps.Postico.plist

Run this read-only check after quitting the app. A printed path still exists; “No such file or directory” means that path is absent, while a permission error needs its own investigation.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The Homebrew cask has a zap list that includes Postico application scripts, container, cache, preferences and saved state. Run the command below without --zap if you want to keep those files and inspect them separately. A manual --zap follows the whole cask list regardless of Mole’s checkboxes. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole's own removal flow.

    brew uninstall --cask postico

    What Mole lists

The exact Postico container and preferences are normally selected. If the container holds local favorites or history, back it up or uncheck it before removal.

    What this test covered

Postico 2.3.3 from the official package was removed on September 20, 2026. No database connection was made; a 108 KB container hit a Trash permission error, so that test did not prove its removal.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
