How to Uninstall Principle on Mac
Save editable Principle prototype files before removing the app. An exported video or GIF shows the interaction but cannot replace the source document. The recorded test used a direct download, not a Homebrew installation.
Remove the app and inspect its data
Before removing Principle, open the editable prototype files you want to keep, rather than relying on a video or GIF export. Then quit Principle and move Principle.app from Applications to Trash. Check the exact bundle-ID support folder and preferences, and leave prototype files in user folders alone. The cask names exact app support, caches, HTTP storage and preferences. Vendor guidance.
After quitting, copy wanted local state from the paths below to an independent private backup outside the removal folders and verify it. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to open each path or its parent, then move only existing unneeded app-specific items to the Trash. Keep shared parents and other apps' files:
~/Library/Application Support/com.danielhooper.principle~/Library/Caches/com.danielhooper.principle~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.danielhooper.principle~/Library/Preferences/com.danielhooper.principle.plist~/Library/Saved Application State/com.danielhooper.principle.savedState
Check the result
ls -ld ~/Library/'Application Support'/com.danielhooper.principle ~/Library/Preferences/com.danielhooper.principle.plist
Run this read-only check after quitting the app. A printed path still exists; “No such file or directory” means that path is absent, while a permission error needs its own investigation.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The Homebrew cask has a zap list that includes bundle-ID support, caches, HTTP storage and preferences, not independently saved prototypes. Run the command below without --zap if you want to keep those files and inspect them separately. A manual --zap follows the whole cask list regardless of Mole’s checkboxes. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole's own removal flow.
brew uninstall --cask principle
What Mole lists
Exact bundle-ID support, cache and preferences are normally selected. A separately saved prototype file is not a remnant merely because Principle created it.
What this test covered
Principle 6.43 from the official archive was removed on September 20, 2026. No prototype document was opened, so the run did not test document preservation or export.
