How to uninstall Proton Pass on Mac
Proton Pass keeps your vaults in your Proton account, so before removing the desktop app, check that your items open in the Proton Pass web app or on another signed-in device. The local folders below hold the desktop app's own data, and Application Support/Proton Pass needs review before removal. The data setting can preselect it, so check the row after verifying your vault. This guide covers the official Mac download from Proton and the Homebrew cask proton-pass.
Quit and remove the app
Quit Proton Pass, then move Proton Pass.app from Applications to the Trash. Proton's help page for the desktop app does not describe an uninstall, so this is the standard way.
Where the data lives
After quitting and verifying your backup, use Shift + Command + G in Finder to inspect each existing path. For a full local removal, move only the listed app-owned items you no longer need to the Trash.
| Location | What it holds | What Mole does |
|---|---|---|
~/Library/Application Support/Proton Pass |
The desktop app's local data | Review after verifying the vault; the data setting can preselect it |
~/Library/Logs/Proton Pass |
App logs | Listed and selected by default |
~/Library/Caches/me.proton.pass.electron, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/me.proton.pass.electron |
Caches | Listed and selected by default |
~/Library/Preferences/me.proton.pass.electron.plist, ~/Library/Saved Application State/me.proton.pass.electron.savedState |
Preferences and window state | Listed and selected by default |
Other Proton apps such as Proton Mail keep their own folders, and Mole never offers a shared Proton parent folder when you remove Proton Pass.
If you installed it with Homebrew
Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or cannot be fully checked, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.
The proton-pass cask's zap list covers ~/Library/Application Support/Proton Pass, ~/Library/Logs/Proton Pass, the caches (including an updater cache Caches/me.proton.pass.electron.ShipIt), HTTPStorages, preferences, saved window state and the app's recent-documents list. Running brew uninstall --cask --zap proton-pass yourself moves all of it to the Trash, whatever you ticked in Mole. With Remove data and settings with apps off, Application Support/Proton Pass starts unchecked and suppresses --zap while unchecked. Turning it on can preselect eligible app-owned data; review the selection before removal. Homebrew proton-pass cask
To remove only the app:
brew uninstall --cask proton-pass
Check the result
pgrep -il "Proton Pass"
ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Proton Pass" "$HOME/Library/Caches/me.proton.pass.electron"
No output from pgrep means Proton Pass is not running. ls -d prints each folder that still exists and reports "No such file or directory" for the rest; the Application Support folder still being there is expected if you left its row unticked.

What this test covered
On September 21, 2026, Proton Pass 1.40.2 was copied from Proton's official download into Applications, opened without signing in, and uninstalled with a Preview build of Mole 1.15 (build 282), with no Homebrew receipt. No vault was written to disk. With every listed row ticked, the app, the 2 MB Application Support folder and the Logs folder went to the Trash. Signing in, syncing and the browser extension were not tested.
