How to Uninstall Transmit on Mac

Before removing Transmit, export server favorites with Servers › Export and keep the exported file somewhere outside Transmit. Panic documents that export path and says an unsynced list lives under ~/Library/Application Support/Transmit; passwords may also be in the macOS Keychain. Check remote files in their actual server or cloud account before removing local settings. The September test used the direct download, not the App Store or Homebrew cask.

Remove the app and review its data

Finish or safely cancel active file transfers, then quit Transmit. Move Transmit.app from Applications to Trash. Use Finder’s Go › Go to Folder to inspect ~/Library/Application Support/Transmit, ~/Library/Application Support/com.panic.Transmit, and ~/Library/Preferences/com.panic.Transmit.plist. Keep the first folder if you need its server list; copy wanted data and confirm the copy opens before removing a folder. Panic also lists ~/Library/Application Support/Transmit Disk and ~/Library/Preferences/com.panic.TransmitDisk.plist for older Transmit Disk setups. Do not remove those just because the names look related; check whether you used that feature.

After checking the backup, move only the unwanted Transmit support and preferences items above to the Trash. Using the same Finder command, inspect these additional cask-listed leaves and move existing unwanted items to the Trash after all transfers have finished:

    • ~/Library/Caches/com.panic.Transmit
    • ~/Library/Caches/Transmit
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data/com.panic.Transmit
    • ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.panic.Transmit
    • ~/Library/WebKit/com.panic.Transmit
    • ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.panic.Transmit.savedState

Skip missing items and keep parent folders. In ~/Library/Application Support/com.apple.sharedfilelist/com.apple.LSSharedFileList.ApplicationRecentDocuments, remove only existing com.panic.transmit.sfl* files, keeping this shared directory and other apps’ records.

    Check the result

These commands read the current state without removing anything:

    pgrep -il Transmit
    ls -ld ~/Library/'Application Support'/Transmit ~/Library/'Application Support'/com.panic.Transmit

No pgrep result means no matching process is running; a listed process should be identified and quit before removing data. ls prints an existing path, reports “No such file or directory” for a missing one, and may report a permission error that needs separate investigation. Do not treat a surviving remote file, project or deliberately retained preference as an uninstall failure.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The Transmit cask zaps both Application Support folders, preferences, caches, WebKit and HTTP storage. It does not consult your Mole selections if you run brew uninstall --cask --zap transmit yourself. To keep the server list, use brew uninstall --cask transmit and inspect the remaining data later. Mole omits --zap when a target is unchecked, shared, outside the checked boundary or unverifiable, then handles selected rows through its own flow.

    brew uninstall --cask transmit

Removing the application does not cancel a purchase or delete a remote account.

    What Mole lists

Exact bundle-ID support, cache and preferences paths are selected by default. With Remove data and settings with apps off, the display-name folder Application Support/Transmit is listed but not selected. With it on, an eligible unshared review row can be preselected; back up wanted server settings and uncheck it to keep them. Remote server content and Keychain passwords are not a single Transmit remnant; confirm them separately.

    What this test covered

Transmit 5.11.6 from the official package was installed and removed on September 20, 2026, with all review items selected. The recorded 12 KB Application Support/Transmit folder was removed. No real remote connection, password recovery, App Store sync, or Homebrew removal was verified.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
