How to uninstall VoiceInk on Mac

VoiceInk keeps your downloaded Whisper models, the audio of your dictations and your transcription history together in one folder inside Library, ~/Library/Application Support/com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk, and Mole selects that folder by default. If you want any of it, copy it or untick that row before you uninstall. These steps cover VoiceInk downloaded from tryvoiceink.com or its GitHub releases and the Homebrew cask voiceink.

    What is in VoiceInk's folder

VoiceInk's transcription history page says History is stored locally in the app's support database. The open-source code puts these inside ~/Library/Application Support/com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk:

Inside the folder What it is
WhisperModels Downloaded Whisper models; a large one is well over 1 GB
Recordings The saved dictation audio (recording code)
    default.store Your transcription history
dictionary.store and stats.store Your custom dictionary and usage statistics

Parakeet models are stored separately under ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio/Models (model cache code), a folder named after the speech library VoiceInk uses rather than after VoiceInk.

Save what you want to keep

    1. To keep the text, open History in VoiceInk, select the rows and use Export, which writes a CSV file.
    2. While VoiceInk is still open, delete unwanted models from their card menus, as the local models page describes. That also works for Parakeet models.
    3. To keep audio or remaining models, quit VoiceInk and copy Recordings or WhisperModels out of the folder above. Models can be downloaded again from inside the app, so most people only need the recordings.

Quit VoiceInk and remove the app

    1. Quit VoiceInk from its menu bar icon.
    2. Move VoiceInk from the Applications folder to the Trash.
    3. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security and turn off VoiceInk's Microphone access. In other permission panels where it appears, remove the entry or disable access according to the controls shown.
    4. After saving wanted text, recordings and models, press Shift + Command + G in Finder and open ~/Library/Application Support. Move only com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk and, if present and unwanted, VoiceInk to the Trash. Keep the Application Support parent. Leave FluidAudio while another app needs its models; otherwise copy any wanted models before moving only that folder to the Trash.

    Check the result

Run these read-only commands in Terminal:

    pgrep -il voiceink
    ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk"
    du -sh "$HOME/Library/Application Support/com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk"
    ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio"

    • No output from pgrep means VoiceInk has quit.
    • The first ls -d prints the VoiceInk data folder if it exists. "No such file or directory" means that exact folder is absent; permission errors leave its state unknown. du -sh measures the whole folder, including hidden contents, if it can read it.
    • ls -d printing the path means the FluidAudio folder exists, not that model files are inside it. Inspect its contents and check whether another app needs them before removing the folder. "No such file or directory" means that exact folder is absent; other errors leave its state unknown.

If you installed it with Homebrew

Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or cannot be fully checked, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.

The voiceink cask's zap list includes ~/Library/Application Support/com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk, so brew uninstall --cask --zap voiceink moves your models, recordings and history to the Trash, whatever you ticked in Mole. It also lists ~/Library/Application Support/VoiceInk, caches, HTTP storage, preferences and saved window state. To keep your data, copy it first, or remove only the app:

    brew uninstall --cask voiceink

    What Mole lists

This is how Mole handles VoiceInk installed from the official download:

    • ~/Library/Application Support/com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk is selected by default. It holds your models, recordings and history, so untick it if you want to keep them.
    • ~/Library/Application Support/VoiceInk is listed for review. With Remove data and settings with apps off it starts unchecked; with it on, eligible app data can start checked. Uncheck it if you want its contents to stay.
    • The CloudKit cache, HTTP storage, preferences file and temporary cache folder filed under com.prakashjoshipax.VoiceInk are selected by default.
    • ~/Library/Application Support/FluidAudio is not listed.

    What this test covered

On September 26, 2026, VoiceInk 2.20 was installed from the official package Homebrew's cask points to, checked against its checksum and copied into Applications, launched once without recording anything or downloading a model, and uninstalled with a development build of Mole with every listed row ticked, including the ones Mole leaves unchecked. Mole's Status page showed VoiceInk as one row with two processes. The app and six rows, seven items in all, went to the Trash. Three files stayed: a phrase database macOS keeps for Shortcuts under ~/Library/Biome, which the system manages and Mole does not touch. No login item or launch agent appeared, and the Homebrew cask was not uninstalled. An earlier test on September 22, 2026 removed the app (114 MB), its support folder and its preferences, and in that run a Sparkle updater storage folder not named after VoiceInk, HTTPStorages/org.sparkle-project.DownloaderService, was also selected and removed.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
