    Uninstall Warp on Mac

Finish remote sessions, builds, and local servers in the terminal, then back up ~/.warp before removing Warp. On macOS that folder holds the Stable channel's themes, workflows, launch configurations, settings.toml, and keybindings.yaml, plus the MCP server config and skills that Warp Preview also reads. These steps cover the direct download from warp.dev and the Homebrew cask; the Homebrew section explains what its zap step deletes.

Quit Warp and remove the app

    1. Save work in every Warp tab and quit Warp from its menu. Closing a window does not end every task running in it.
    2. If Warp is set to open at login, turn it off under System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions.
    3. Move Warp from Applications to the Trash. Warp's instructions do this through Finder (Move to Trash) or sudo rm -r /Applications/Warp.app; Finder is the recoverable route.

To switch accounts rather than remove Warp, sign out under Settings › Account instead. Uninstalling the app does not delete your Warp account or its cloud data. Logging out and uninstalling · Warp data management

    Where Warp keeps its files

Warp's file locations reference and uninstall page list these for the Stable channel. For Warp Preview, replace Warp-Stable with Warp-Preview and ~/.warp with ~/.warp-preview, with one exception: MCP config and skills stay in ~/.warp for both channels. Removing ~/.warp therefore deletes files that Preview also uses.

Location What it holds Keep or remove
~/.warp Stable themes, tab configs, workflows, launch configurations, settings.toml, keybindings.yaml; shared .mcp.json and skills Back it up first. Keep it if Warp Preview stays installed.
~/.warp-preview The same user files for Warp Preview Only when you remove Preview too.
Preferences domain dev.warp.Warp-Stable Legacy app preferences; Warp removes it with defaults delete dev.warp.Warp-Stable Safe to remove after the app is gone.
~/Library/Logs/warp.log Logs (Preview writes warp_preview.log) Safe to remove.
~/Library/Group Containers/2BBY89MBSN.dev.warp/Library/Application Support/dev.warp.Warp-Stable Local database, Codebase Context index, MCP logs Remove only this channel's folder, not the whole group container, if Preview stays.

Open each location with Shift + Command + G in Finder and move only the items you decided to remove to the Trash. ~/.agents also appears in Warp's reference as agent config; other agent tools can use that folder too, so leave it unless you know only Warp wrote it.

    Check the result

Run these read-only commands in another terminal app:

    pgrep -il warp
    ls -d ~/.warp ~/.warp-preview
    ls -d ~/Library/Group\ Containers/2BBY89MBSN.dev.warp
    defaults read dev.warp.Warp-Stable > /dev/null && echo "preferences remain"

No output from pgrep means no process name matched warp; it does not rule out a differently named task or helper. A name such as Cloudflare WARP belongs to a different product. No such file or directory from ls means that location is gone; a listed path is still on disk, which is expected for anything you chose to keep. A Domain dev.warp.Warp-Stable does not exist error from defaults read means the preferences were removed; preferences remain means they were not.

If you installed it with Homebrew

Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or cannot be fully checked, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.

Running brew uninstall --cask --zap warp yourself runs the zap list regardless of which rows you check in Mole, and it moves ~/.warp to the Trash along with ~/Library/Application Support/dev.warp.Warp-Stable, ~/Library/Logs/warp.log*, the dev.warp.Warp-Stable preferences, and saved window state. That deletes your themes, workflows, settings, and the MCP config and skills Preview shares. Back up ~/.warp first, or run brew uninstall --cask warp without zap if you want to keep it. The zap list does not include the 2BBY89MBSN.dev.warp group container; in the recorded test it stayed on disk.

    What Mole lists

Skip any path that does not exist on your Mac. The unchecked data rows below describe the default with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible app-owned data. Shared groups still need individual review. Uncheck wanted themes, workflows and shared MCP files before removal.

    Location In the plan
    ~/.warp Listed but not selected.
~/Library/Group Containers/2BBY89MBSN.dev.warp Listed but not selected. Stable and Preview share it.
Library items named dev.warp.Warp-Stable (preferences, caches, saved window state) Selected by default.
~/Library/Caches/SentryCrash/Warp Selected by default, unless Warp Preview is still installed; then listed but not selected.

When you uninstall Warp Preview, Mole lists both ~/.warp-preview and ~/.warp, initially unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off, because the shared MCP config and skills live in ~/.warp.

    What this test covered

Warp Stable was installed from the Homebrew cask on September 17, 2026 and uninstalled through Mole, which ran the zap list. The zap step removed ~/.warp, preferences, and caches; the 2.3 MB group container stayed. Warp Preview, signed-in cloud data, and the direct-download uninstall itself were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
