    Uninstall Grok Bot on Mac

Grok Bot's Mac app and its cloud computer are separate. Quitting or uninstalling the desktop app does not automatically stop work already running in the cloud or pause scheduled routines. Decide whether you only want to remove the Mac app, or also remove the Bot's access to tools and files. Save the results you want before anything else. These steps cover the official disk image and the Homebrew cask. Grok Bot FAQ

Save results and review running work

Open Grok Bot and check for unfinished conversations. Save documents, images, or other results you want to keep from their file cards into your own project folder, then open the saved copies to verify them. Files you created in a project are not app leftovers. Files and results

If you do not want a Bot to keep working on a schedule, open that Bot's View conversation details and then Routines. Pause each routine you no longer need. Deleting a routine has no undo, so pause it when you might want it again; closing the Mac app does not pause it for you. Routines guide

Remove the app from this Mac

Sign out in Grok Bot, then press Command + Q to quit the app. If it is still running in the menu bar or Activity Monitor, close the desktop process before moving Grok Bot from Applications to the Trash. The official Mac download is a disk image that installs by dragging the app into Applications. Official installation steps

    Review remaining files separately

In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and inspect these locations one at a time. Skip a location that does not exist; do not search for Grok or Cursor by name and delete the parent directory.

    • ~/Library/Application Support/Grok Bot and ~/Library/Application Support/com.anysphere.sand are support directories for this desktop app. They may retain local settings or sign-in state. Keep them if you plan to reinstall, or review each one before moving it to the Trash.
    • ~/.grokbot held sensitive local-execution data in the inspected installation. Do not treat it as a cache or share its contents. If leaving the local runtime completely, first save wanted execution data outside this folder and check that no runtime you retain still needs it. Then open ~ with Finder Go to Folder, press Shift + Command + . to show hidden items, and move only .grokbot to the Trash; otherwise keep it and uncheck that row in Mole.
    • ~/Library/Caches/com.anysphere.sand and ~/Library/Logs/Grok Bot contain app caches and logs. After the app has quit, you can trash them individually if you do not need the logs for troubleshooting. ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.anysphere.sand may contain session state; sign out before deciding whether to remove it.
    • ~/Library/Preferences/com.anysphere.sand.plist stores app preferences, and ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.anysphere.sand.savedState stores window restoration state. Remove them only if you no longer want those local settings. Leave Cursor configuration, other projects, and saved results alone.

    Check the result

Run these read-only commands in Terminal:

    pgrep -ilf "Grok Bot.app"
    ls -d "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Grok Bot" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/com.anysphere.sand" "$HOME/.grokbot"

No output from pgrep means no process is running from the app bundle; a line with a process ID means Grok Bot is still open, so quit it again. For ls, "No such file or directory" means that location is gone. A path that is listed still exists, which is expected when you chose to keep it.

A data directory you chose to keep does not mean the uninstall failed. The cloud computer, routines, connector access, and subscription are separate from the Mac app: uninstalling does not cancel a subscription or remove the Bot's access. If you also want to remove access, review your routines, website sign-ins on the cloud computer, connected plugins, and files in /workspace using the vendor's account workflow. Removing access and working data

If you installed it with Homebrew

Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or cannot be fully checked, and still cleans the leftovers you selected.

Running brew uninstall --cask --zap grok-bot yourself runs the cask's zap list on its own, whatever you selected in Mole. For Grok Bot it includes ~/Library/Application Support/Grok Bot and ~/Library/Application Support/com.anysphere.sand, which can hold local settings and sign-in state. It does not include ~/.grokbot. Homebrew cask

If you want to keep those support directories, remove only the app with:

    brew uninstall --cask grok-bot

    What Mole lists

In the September 22 to 23, 2026 inspection, Mole listed 24 rows and selected 22 by default. Currently, ~/Library/Application Support/com.anysphere.sand and the bundle-id caches, logs, HTTP storage, preferences and saved state are selected by default. ~/Library/Application Support/Grok Bot and ~/.grokbot are listed for review: with Remove data and settings with apps off they start unchecked; with it on, eligible own data can start checked. Inspect and uncheck both review rows and com.anysphere.sand if you want to retain local settings, sign-in state or execution data.

    What this test covered

Grok Bot was inspected, not uninstalled. On September 22 and 23, 2026, a development build of Mole 1.15 previewed the removal plan for an existing installation of version 0.57.1 and nothing was deleted. The preview did not check the cloud computer, routines or connectors.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
