How to Uninstall Kap on Mac
Export each recording you want to keep to a known folder, then open the exported file before uninstalling Kap. An unfinished capture in temporary storage is not a saved movie. The recorded test used a direct download, not a Homebrew installation.
Remove the app and inspect its data
Quit Kap from the menu bar after export, then move Kap.app from Applications to Trash. Keep saved GIF, MP4, WebM or APNG files wherever you exported them. The support folder and preferences are application state, not proof that a recording was exported. The vendor lists the supported export formats. Vendor guidance.
Confirm wanted recordings have been exported and open correctly before clearing application state. After quitting, copy wanted local state from the paths below to an independent private backup outside the removal folders and verify it. In Finder, press Shift + Command + G to open each path or its parent, then move only existing unneeded app-specific items to the Trash. Keep shared parents and other apps' files:
~/Library/Application Support/Kap~/Library/Caches/com.wulkano.kap~/Library/Caches/com.wulkano.kap.ShipIt~/Library/Cookies/com.wulkano.kap.binarycookies~/Library/Preferences/com.wulkano.kap.helper.plist~/Library/Preferences/com.wulkano.kap.plist~/Library/Saved Application State/com.wulkano.kap.savedState
Check the result
ls -ld ~/Library/'Application Support'/Kap ~/Library/Preferences/com.wulkano.kap.plist
Run this read-only check after quitting the app. A printed path still exists; “No such file or directory” means that path is absent, while a permission error needs its own investigation.
If you installed it with Homebrew
The Homebrew cask has a zap list that includes Application Support/Kap, caches, preferences and saved state, not user-exported recordings. Run the command below without --zap if you want to keep those files and inspect them separately. A manual --zap follows the whole cask list regardless of Mole’s checkboxes. Mole skips --zap when its list reaches unchecked or shared data, or a removal scope it cannot verify; selected remnants still follow Mole's own removal flow.
brew uninstall --cask kap
What Mole lists
With Remove data and settings with apps off, the listed display-name support row starts unchecked. With it on, an eligible existing own unshared row may start checked; finish exports and uncheck wanted local state; exact bundle-ID caches and preferences are normally selected. Exported videos outside Library are not collected by this rule.
What this test covered
Kap 3.6.0 was copied from the official package and removed on September 20, 2026. Screen Recording permission was not granted, no clip was captured, and a 1.6 MB support folder remained after the missed review selection.
